A little about restoration

The restoration process is tailored to each piano. Each area of the piano is minutely inspected with appreciation of the craftsmanship, and restored with prudence, a mind for longevity, and an enthusiasm for sonic aliveness.

In summary, the following areas are addressed:

Soundboard – the resonant wood of the piano
Bridges – transfer string vibration into the soundboard
Strings and tuning pins – hold immense tension and they have a lifespan
Pin block – Houses tuning pins; critical for the piano to hold pitch
Action – the mechanism which carries your finger stroke to the string
Hammers – strike the strings; must be healthy for good tone
Keys – whether ivory and ebony or other materials
Pedals – the foot operated systems
The case – the aesthetically pleasing exterior

Made simply of wood, metal, leather, and wool felt…pianos are works of art.

Restoring a piano is like planting a tree for the future. I am humbled to work with those who invest in returning to origin, creating a legacy.

What does the process entail?

I assess the piano, revealing the piano’s internal needs in order to be fully restored for the next generation(s). This is the best time for you to ask questions and make special requests.
You receive a quote.
If accepted, the piano movers pick up your piano (or I set up a workspace on site)
Your piano undergoes a tailored restoration process, in the shop a month or two, or if on site, a shorter dedicated time.
The restored piano is returned and tuned. Simple annual tuning encouraged thereafter.
